GlobalFoundries, a New York Malta-based semiconductor manufacturer, has successfully deployed artificial intelligence (AI) in three different applications, shifting AI discussions away from large language models (e.g., ChatGPT) and focusing on technologies that add efficiency and value to modern manufacturing processes.

A report published by MIT in August 2025 indicates that 95% of generative AI projects attempted by companies fail. This suggests that the technology itself might be a general problem. However, machine learning and AI-based software, which have been used in manufacturing for decades, are now being enhanced by today's advanced AI solutions.

Pradip Singh, GlobalFoundries' Chief Officer of Manufacturing, shared three new, scalable, AI-based tools developed by the company, some of which are already delivering a return on investment (ROI). These tools, as improved versions of existing machine learning systems, add value to the industry.

    ### GlobalFoundries' Three AI-Based Tools

    • Increased efficiency in manufacturing processes
    • Advanced control systems in product inspection
    • Automation and predictive capabilities in maintenance processes

These developments highlight the practical, applicable, and value-adding aspects of artificial intelligence in industry. For detailed information and other practical AI applications, the IndustryWeek article can be followed.
