Fabtech 2025: Innovations in Robotics and Welding Technologies

At Fabtech 2025, FANUC, Universal Robots, Kawasaki, and AGT Robotics showcased their latest technologies in welding, plasma cutting, and large-scale automation.

Fabtech 2025: North America's Largest Metal Fabrication Exhibition Held in Chicago

Fabtech 2025, North America's largest metal fabrication exhibition, returned to Chicago with over 1,700 exhibitors and a show full of innovations in automation. FANUC introduced new welding and material handling robots. Universal Robots displayed advanced welding and plasma cutting technologies. Kawasaki Robotics demonstrated its Velo-S Cell robot cell, while AGT Robotics drew attention with its large-scale AI-powered welding systems. These developments clearly demonstrated the rise of robotic technologies in the manufacturing sector.

FANUC develops specialized robots for welding, cutting, and surface treatment of metal parts. At the exhibition, various manufacturing tasks were performed with two 7-axis CRX-10iA and one CRX-30iA robots. Additionally, the new M-950/500F-28A material handling robot and two Arc Mate/25-18D welding robots were unveiled during an excavator bucket repair demonstration.

FANUC's CRX-10iA/L model can weld in tight spaces.

Universal Robots (UR) introduced its first welding robot in 2017, and has now evolved with new models capable of welding complex parts, performing long seams and repetitive passes. UR robots are also used in other metalworking applications such as laser welding and plasma cutting, in partnership with multiple companies. UR robot-based applications have increased, such as Hirebotics' Cobot Cutter, and robots from Vectics Automation and Hypertherm. THG Automation's new URW-2LF laser welding robot also uses UR technology.

Kawasaki Robotics also showcased its robotic technologies at Fabtech 2025. While there may not have been new product announcements, innovation continues. The most striking feature was the opportunity for attendees to bring their own parts smaller than 40 inches and weld them in the Velo-S Cell robot cell.

AGT Robotics focuses on robotic welding of large-sized objects. The company, which stands out with products such as BeamMaster and BLOK systems, specializes in welding large I-joists. BeamMaster is designed for precise and efficient welding of large structural elements in construction and building areas. Furthermore, thanks to the Cortex AI-powered programming software, welding operations are fully automated, ensuring high quality and reliability.

If you missed the opportunity, don't worry! Fabtech 2026 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 21-23. Admission is free, and the exhibition offers an excellent opportunity to see robotic and automation innovations and network with industry professionals.
